The Role…At Soho House, the Finance Director, Brazil will be a key member of the Americas finance leadership team and the Latin America Senior Management team. The Finance Director, Brazil will be responsible for all financial considerations of the business including, developing and leading the finance function for Soho House properties in Brazil. An influential leader and strategic business partner to all departments that can communicate our story, deliver service & financial partnership to other functions and third parties create culture, maximize profits, support operations and member/guest satisfaction. The scope of the role includes setting up a scalable finance outpost for new house openings in Brazil including, but not limited to hotel rooms, membership, wellness & gym as well as all Food & Beverage (F&B) operations. The Finance Director, Brazil is an ambassador for the Soho House brand and fully embraces our ethos, can support, membership & operations staff, member and guest experience, while supporting the operational and strategic annual business plan by monitoring and reporting on budgetary variances, implementing cost control initiatives and educating local management of reports and analysis that enable a financial understanding of the House’s operations.The ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge and understanding of applicable laws, regulations and accounting/tax requirements. Demonstrate strategic planning, strong leadership qualities, possess excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills with a result-oriented approach.

Main Duties…

  • Manage all areas of the finance function in Brazil, including FP&A and business support, accounting and internal controls, accounts payable, bank account/cash management, capital expenditures, payroll, & tax compliance (with support from Americas team in NYC)
  • Lead financial planning, analysis & business support for Sao Paulo, including 5-year planning.
  • Operational and financial analysis, business case development for initiatives, and pre-opening budgets
  • Forecast and create budgets for wage modeling, management performance, KPI reporting/dashboards.
  • Model and budget overheads, variable, and fixed costs for budgeting
  • Works closely with every aspect of the business to identify and drive the process improvement opportunities and operational excellence, related to analysis activities, pay processes, utilizing current policies, procedures, and controls where applicable.
  • Research new markets and obtain comparable metrics to refine the financial models of potential sites.
  • Ensure month-end and quarter-end deliverables and deadlines are met.
  • Recruit, develop, and performance manage a small local team in Sao Paulo including accounting, accounts payable, and payroll
  • Work closely with Americas, Corporate Controller and Accounting (NY) team to implement the Group accounting system and develop routine/financial reporting procedures. Collaborate with Finance Director based in Mexico to ensure consistency, leverage of best practices in LATAM markets.
  • Input into monthly, quarterly, annual commercial review packages as requested.
  • Develop, implement and maintain robust systems to support financial planning ensuring all assumptions, inputs, and KPIs are clearly documented and established to review with key cross functional business partners.
  • Work with Americas Corporate Controller and Head of Procurement to implement local procurement outpost utilizing current policies, procedures and controls where applicable.
  • Work with internal HR to support initial payroll processes and group HRIS implementation.
  • Local bank account management.
  • Provide cash flow projections weekly/monthly to Americas/Group team as required.
  • Implement internal controls around Treasury process consistent with Americas team.
  • Establish relationship with external tax compliance firm. Ensure all regulatory required tax filings are completed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee and execute local audit requirements/deliverables in Brazil to include in Group audit.
  • Ad-hoc projects as needed on direction of Americas CFO

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Must have 10+ years related experience in finance management in the hospitality sector.
  • Effective management, leadership, organizational, verbal and written communication skills, in English and Portuguese
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English highly preferred.
  • Able to speak effectively before groups of stakeholders and other club employees.
  • Must be highly organized, efficient and detail oriented.
  • Must have experience creating budgets, forecasts, P&L’s
  • An undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, business or related degree is required.
  • MBA or other advanced finance degree (or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with a multinational, multi-location company is required.
  • Experience working in a publicly listed company environment and SOX experience is a plus.
  • Experience in hospitality preferred.
  • Strong project and process management skills.
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word, and Powerpoint).
  • Experience with SAGE ERP a plus.
